He is very generous, and I have witnessed him help many many people, when they were going threw rough times. If you have a question, or have heard a rumor, and want to know the facts, talk to the man. Call him! Give him the opportunity to give his side, just don't run the mouth, or listen to those who are running there mouths. Craig Sperry is not perfect, neither Is anyone else, but if you let this guy go you will be loosing a lot of knowledge, experience, and flat out a good person. If your one of those who have a personal vendetta against Craig Sperry, maybe you should get to personally know him, you won't be disappointed! Vote Craig Sperry County Recorder!!!!

Constitutional Right to Own Property

While I can’t respond to every misleading and outright slanderous statement made about me, I do want to set the record straight regarding some of the more particularly outlandish claims that are being spread.

One example is that I have recently been criticized for standing up for my Constitutional rights. In 2000, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) decided to take a 1400 foot strip of property I own with my wife, Mary Lou, to develop a passing lane for Highway 132. We were agreeable to deeding the surface of our property to UDOT for the project, but UDOT demanded that we deed subsurface rights that it did not need and refused to pay for.

As is typical for these types of projects, UDOT started an eminent domain proceeding. The United States Constitution requires that the government only take what it needs and pay just compensation for what it does take. We represented ourselves in the eminent domain proceeding, and the judge agreed with us, saying the government didn’t need the subsurface rights to the property. The surface rights to the property were transferred to UDOT, just like we offered in the beginning.

Those criticizing me seem to think it’s a bad thing to stand up to the government when it wants to undermine your Constitutional property rights, but I don’t think there are many people in Juab County who think the government should be able to take property it doesn’t need. The attack on my character implies that public officials DO NOT have the same rights as other citizens. The constitution of the United States of America guarantees the same rights, privileges, and protection to ALL citizens.

Qualified, Dedicated, and Experienced

Endorsement from Merrill Ogden - D Land Title

October 7, 2014

As a land title professional in Juab’s neighbor county of Sanpete, I endorse the re-election of Craig Sperry as the Juab County Recorder/Surveyor.

I have had interaction and business with Craig’s office over the past three decades. Craig and his staff have been helpful and considerate with my business needs.

I believe that Craig maintains the county records in a professional manner. Juab County needs Craig Sperry’s wealth of experience and dedicated service to continue in the office of Recorder/Surveyor.

D Land Title - Manti

Endorsement from Deputy Recorders

Craig Sperry is an amazing Recorder/Surveyor. His knowledge of land records is unsurpassed. This is a very detail oriented and complex job that takes years to learn.

Craig is always looking forward, trying to improve the county land records. We are scanned and indexed back to 1912 and under Craig’s leadership we will continue to scan and index old records until completion. We have all of our oldmaps and plats microfilmed, scanned and indexed for easy accessibility and preservation.

We are often told by Professional Land Men, (individuals who make their living searching land records for mineral exploration), that our records are some of the best around, not only in Utah, but other states as well. Craig has worked hard to organize them in a way that they are user friendly for anyone to come in and access. He is always thinking ahead for future improvements.

Craig has done an excellent job organizing surveys and section corner markers. They are easily accessed on the computer. This was accomplished mostly through the use of grant money that Craig acquired for the county.

Craig is very conscious about tax dollars and is careful with our budget, never going over.

WE NEED THE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE CRAIG J. SPERRY BRINGS TO THE RECORDER/SURVEYOR’S OFFICE. We learn something new from him every day.

Oil and Gas Lease

To set the record straight: I have signed oil and gas leases. If you will notice from the close up picture of the last lease I signed in 2005 and if you referred to the legal descriptions attached to the lease you will see it was for just over 157 acres. The difference between a comma and a period are significant. The correct acreage is 1000 times less than the amount being portrayed. This same year over 200 other property owners in the county also signed oil and gas leases. The lease was for five years and expired in 2010.
